Buying at Copart Martinez — FAQ
Yes. You place the bid, we hold the licence, and the car is titled in your name — you are the owner, not us. Nothing about the purchase runs through a third party.
Both charge a buyer fee on a sliding scale — roughly 8–10% of the hammer price — plus gate and internet fees. Our broker fee is flat and shown before you bid. The winning bid, the auction fees and our fee are due before the car is released; delivery is invoiced separately once the route is confirmed. We settle with the auction under our own account, so you never register with Copart or IAA yourself. One thing to know before you bid: a winning bid is binding, and walking away from a won lot costs a relist fee.
Two things: the cost of getting in, and the inventory you would otherwise never see. A public Copart account runs about $99–249 a year plus a refundable deposit, and it still leaves most of the yard closed to you — salvage and rebuildable lots are dealer-only, and that is the majority of what sells here. Our licence opens them. You pay no annual fee, no deposit to the auction, and no separate bill for a licensed transporter afterwards, because the delivery is ours too.
Not in person — the lot stays at the yard until it sells. What you get on Stat.VIN instead: the insurer's damage report, the full auction photo set, a VIN report with prior owners, accidents and odometer readings, and the sale history of that specific VIN.
Vallejo is the closest, about twenty miles north across the Carquinez Strait, and it holds separate inventory with its own sale days. Copart also covers the East Bay from Hayward and the South Bay from San Martin, which it sells under the San Jose name. One broker account covers all of them, so a buyer watching a specific model usually tracks lots at several and takes whichever goes cheapest.
Open carrier by default, enclosed if you ask for it. The rate depends on the lot — size, whether it runs — and on the distance, and the calculator shows it before you bid rather than after you win. It goes on the same invoice as the car.
Most routes within California complete in a day or two after payment clears. Longer hauls depend on the corridor and the season. Storage matters here: there is a free period at the yard, after which Copart charges daily, so we schedule pickup as soon as payment goes through.
Yes — the lot listing states whether it runs and drives, and non-running cars go on a flatbed with winch loading rather than being towed. That is already reflected in the delivery quote, at no extra charge.
Yes. If you've already won a lot at this yard, you can order delivery from there as a standalone service. You don't need to bid through Stat.VIN to use our delivery service.
