5.5 In the event of a data breach, StatVIN may notify you:
- by email,
- through a notice on the website.
5.6 You agree to receive such notifications in electronic form.
6. Removal and Data Subject Requests
6.1 Stat.vin aggregates and republishes vehicle information (VIN, lot photos, sale history, condition notes, odometer readings and similar data) from publicly accessible auction and salvage platforms operated by third parties.
We do not collect this information from vehicle owners directly and we do not generate any of it ourselves.
6.2 We understand that vehicle owners, prior owners and other interested parties may, in certain circumstances, wish for a specific listing to be removed or anonymised. We operate an open removal channel for such requests.
6.3. How to submit a request. Send an e-mail to [email protected]. Requests are accepted in free form — there is no specific template, court order, or formal documentation required to initiate a request. Please include in your message:
- The URL or VIN of the listing you are asking about;
- A short description of why you are asking for removal or anonymisation (e.g. you are the current registered keeper of the vehicle, the data is inaccurate, etc.);
- Any reasonable indication of your connection to the vehicle. We work with whatever you can plausibly provide — a copy of the registration certificate or title, an insurance document, prior auction paperwork, a copy of an ID matching the keeper's name, or any other document that reasonably demonstrates legitimate interest.
If the keeper is a legal entity, please provide corporate documents and an indication that you are authorised to act on its behalf.
6.4 How we respond. We aim to acknowledge each request within a reasonable time after receipt and to process it shortly thereafter. Depending on the request and the evidence provided, we will normally either:
- anonymise the listing (e.g. remove or mask the VIN and other identifying details),
- correct inaccurate information,
- explain why we are not able to act on the request (for example, because the underlying data is factual, was lawfully obtained from a public source, and a recognised legitimate interest justifies its continued publication — such as the interest of prospective buyers in verifying a used vehicle's history).
6.5 We do not, as a general matter, remove factual information about a vehicle's auction history solely because its publication is commercially inconvenient to a current or prior owner or reseller. Vehicle-history transparency is an important consumer-protection function on the second-hand market.
6.6 Scope and applicable law. To the extent that any information published on stat.vin qualifies as "personal data" within the meaning of Regulation (EU) 2016/679 ("GDPR") or comparable legislation, the data subject may exercise his or her rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction and objection by writing to [email protected].
6.7 We will assess each request on its merits, balancing the data subject's rights against the legitimate interests we and third parties have in the continued availability of public auction records (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
6.8 If you are unsatisfied with our response, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the supervisory authority in your country of residence.
7. Communications
7.1 If you do not wish to receive: promotional emails or marketing communications you may opt out by following the instructions in the emails.
